"Texas" Terry Phillips, in Detroit?
Yea I get that one alot. Here's the short-ish version:
I grew up in Dallas Texas, my dad lived in Michigan, so I spent one month of summer and a week round Christmas in Michigan. At age 5, I "borrowed" my father's tape recorder and began entertaining myself... By the time I was 7 he had "interviewed" Yoda, Kermit the Frog, and other character voices. Including getting friends to help out with parody songs, commercials, and fake radio shows. My other love, was computers, rocking a Comodore 64 BBS before 13.
Growing up listening to Ken Dow, Bob Shuman, Blair Gardner, Steven's & Pruit, Andy Barber, Kid Kraddick (starting as a night jock), Jack Murphy, Billy Burke, Pamula Steele, Moby in the Morning, and more of the radio great's who went through Dallas, & collecting hotline numbers from those stations and talking to the jocks often enough to encourage me, a doe eyed sucker lol.
From big stations, an internship with KZPS, to board op, part time on air, and voices for the morning show at Y95, KHYI... To small; weekends at KBUS, nights at KIKT & KPLT, and first nights, then mornings at KBYB, where a consultant first added "Texas" to my air name so Texas Terry Phillips got the "Texas" in Arkansas HA!!!...
Starting out working with, following around, and generally annoying amazing talents like Brian Wilson, Aubrey Hayden, Buzzy Bennett, JJ McKay and Jack Murphy in Dallas could be the blame for encouraging me in the production room, but it clicked at KIIM in Tucson, computers (which did I mention I dig, cause I'm a geek) in production gained me some clients, awards, and more responsibility. By the time I left Tucson I was handling most of the imaging for the station and had an ever-growing client list.
Then in the odd move, I, Texas Terry turned down nights at legendary WSSL, and moved to Michigan!!!

Well I wanted to get to know my father, and to help sign on WFBE in Flint as Production Director and Midday air talent. I met my wife a native with families ties, had some of the most beautiful children on the planet and in 2000 I was hired away by CBS Radio at WYCD in Detroit, then adding WOMC and other random responsobilities.
So, here I am, a proud Texan, and someone who has fallen in love with Detroit. So Yea I'm a Motor City Mouth, a geek, Texas Terry, a Creative Director, Voice Over guy, and DAD... You know, that last one is the coolest though.
